Under the auspices of the General Secretariat of the Executive Council, a dedicated Department has been established to organise and develop all aspects of excellence in government performance to effectively deliver the aims and objectives of the programme to add sustainable value improvement to the performance of Government operations.

The Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance is the most visible aspect of the programme and will provide a major platform in supporting the Vision for Abu Dhabi. The Award promotes: Understanding of the requirements for excellence in government and competitiveness for improvement throughout the government service, sharing of information and knowledge of successful improvement strategies.

• The opportunity to find out how good your government ‘department really is’ by being measured against international excellence framework.
•  The opportunity to receive written and face-to-face feedback on your government departments’ performance from the specially trained assessor team, who are highly qualified and professional individuals. The feedback will detail strengths and areas for improvement to heighten your understanding
•  A unique way to motivate employees at all levels in a positive and constructive atmosphere 
•  A chance to learn from others’ good practice as all applicants from all government departments will receive publications showing good practices from other applicants 
•  Heightened awareness of Excellence issues and sharpened focus on improvement activities  
  
• Strong research evidence from both Europe and the USA showed that winners of similar excellence awards experience remarkable improvements in organizational performance in terms of increased efficiency, effectiveness, operational as well as financial outcomes.

Taking from the Award’s Office Vision and Mission, the aim is to achieve the following:

• Help improve organization’s performance, practices, and capabilities and performance based on a proven model of Excellence
• Deliver ever-improving value to government customers and all other stakeholders
• Facilitate and communicate and share best practice both nationally and internationally
• Develop people competencies, knowledge, skills and attitudes
• Raise the quality standards and reduce production costs via elimination of waste, thus achieving waste-free government
